8 Places to Take Your Engagement Photos Around Charlotte

Hey there, lady! You’re ENGAGED!! I know planning your engagement session can almost be as difficult as planning your wedding. What do you wear? Where will you have it? Who will photograph it? You may already have some of those things figured out, but you’re here for one reason: you’re still deciding WHERE to have your session and I’m here to help!

Below, I’m going to tell you about some of my FAVORITE location spots in and around the Charlotte area, why each option could be great for you, AND link you to a session that took place in that spot so you can see what a FULL session in that location could look like.

But enough babbling from me, lets just right into it!

Freedom Park

Freedom Park is first because it’s one of my FAVORITE locations in Charlotte! I mean, C’MON! It gives SO much variety to work with and every inch of the park is absolutely stunning.

Freedom Park is great option for you if:

– You like water, bridges, weeping willows, and greenery.

– You want a session full of NATURE. No city vibes.

Romare Bearden

Romare Bearden is another location that I love, but never recommend as the ONLY location. If you have the option of two locations, this would be a good choice for one of the two! It’s especially beautiful if you have your session during the time of year where the hydrangeas are in FULL BLOOM like in the photo below!

Romare Bearden is great option for you if:

– You LOVE flowers.

– You don’t mind a crowd (it’s often crowded).

– You want that nature vibe within the heart of the city.

Rankin Lake Park

Another favorite if you’re okay with a drive! Rankin Lake Park is located in Gastonia and it’s seriously such a beautiful “hidden” gem! Most people I talk to have never even heard of it! It’s always one of my top recommendations for couples who love the water!

Rankin Lake Park is great option for you if:

– You love the water and nature!

– You want to include a canoe (they have cheap rentals!)

– You want to bring your dog (because dogs love Rankin Lake Park!)

Marshall Park

Marshall Park is usually what I recommend alongside Romare Bearden if you’re doing two locations! But, Marshall Park is wonderful choice on it’s own, too! There is a ton of variety and if you scroll down, you’ll see why!

Marshall Park is great option for you if:

– You want variety (nature, city, urban).

– You really want the Charlotte cityscape.

– You’re having a fall session (the colors are dreamy)!

Anne Springs Greenway

The Anne Springs Greenway is one of my ALL TIME FAVORITE locations and it’s located right at the heart of Fort Mill, SC. The only con: there is a $50 fee to shoot there. If that’s not an issue for you, I say GO FOR IT. You seriously won’t regret it.

The Anne Springs Greenway is great option for you if:

– You love nature and want a country vibe.

– You love horses (you may catch a few in the background).

– You want a variety (they have a lovely creek and swinging bridge!)

The Ivy Place

The Ivy Place is another place I love, but they also have a fee ($40 per hour). Like I said before, if that’s not issue for you, the Ivy Place is STUNNING. They seriously have it all, including the most BEAUTIFUL gardens!

The Ivy Place is great option for you if:

– You want flowers and gardens!

– You want a field of tall grass.

– You want a lot of nature variety!

Winthrop Lake

A stunning hidden lake by Winthrop University in Rock Hill, SC! Similar to Romare Bearden, I don’t recommend an entire session there due to a lack of variety, but if you want open fields and a lake, it may be the place for you!

The Winthrop Lake is great option for you if:

– You want a lake in the background.

– You want a nice, glowy sunset!

– You want an open field (but not tall grass).

Fountain Park

Fountain Park is right at the heart of Historic Rock Hill and it’s a great add-on if you choose the Winthrop Lake (or vice versa) since they’re about a mile apart! It offers nice variety, but my favorite part about Fountain Park is the parking garage that’s right next to it! I always LOVE the images taken on top of the garage!

Fountain Park is great option for you if:

– You want an urban vibe with some nature.

– You want a parking garage!

But don’t put yourself in a box and feel free to choose locations ANYWHERE. Some of my favorite sessions have taken place in locations that are SPECIAL to the couple, such as Craggy Gardens in Asheville or Wrightsville Beach in Wilmington.

Don’t be afraid to ask your photographer if they’d be willing to travel. Or, if I’m you’re photographer, I’m ALWAYS up for the drive because you deserve KICKA** images 😉
